Milwaukee Resolution on Climate & Economic Equity
On Thursday July 25th, the Milwaukee county board of supervisors voted 14-2 in favor of Resolution 19-582, a resolution creating the Milwaukee City-County Taskforce on Climate and Economic Equity. Victory! Thank you to everyone who came out in support of the resolution or contacted their supervisor! Our press conference preceding the vote was well attended by the media. 350 Milwaukee's Linda Frank served as emcee and there was a excellent slate of speakers, including Supervisor Supreme Moore Omokunde, George Martin, and youth climate strike leader, Elijah Kraig, among others. The resolution is currently awaiting the signatures of the mayor and county executive. The resolution creates a City-County Task Force on Climate and Economic Equity that will be “charged with making recommendations on how to reduce community-wide net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 45% by the year 2030 and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner, and mitigate racial and income inequity through green jobs” among other things. The resolution commits to going to 100% carbon-free community-wide and creating a City-County Task Force on Climate and Economic Equity.
